Educational Advocacy

The goal of the GRMHA Educational Non-Attorney Advocates’ is to assure children are receiving free, appropriate, public education from their schools by helping establish a collaborative relationship between parents and their school districts.

If it is determined that this program meets your needs, and you agree to the terms of our service, we will ask that you obtain any documents relevant to your child’s educational / behavioral needs (i.e. – IEPs, FBAs, evaluations, etc.) and provide them to us so our advocates can begin work immediately.

Active parental participation and communication is necessary for the advocates to be successful. We will ask that you meet with the advocate so they understand what you would like to see this program accomplish. The advocates will listen, help you access information, support you in making your own decisions, attend meetings as necessary and advocate for you and your child.

Your family may be involved in other community agencies outside the school. While the advocate’s role prevents them from working within other systems, we will make every effort to provide referrals to agencies who can.

In order to assist all the families in Berks County we will be limiting the maximum length of time we will provide services. All fees (if applicable) will be discussed prior to starting services.

Not all situations can be resolved by our Advocates. We will assess each situation and help you find appropriate services if we cannot assist you.

Complete the form below to be added to our waiting list. Someone will call you with any questions and to confirm your place on our list.
